Misinformation in US Media
Media coverage on the conflict on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been manipulative. The media has chosen to portray Israel and Palestine as though they both hold equal power in their circumstance however this is false. The media majority of Western media has ignored and attempted to revise the decade of history surrounding Israel and the Palestinian people from the displacement of Palestinians between the 1947-1949 and the Nakba to the modern day. Israel has slowly increased restrictions and oppression of Palestinian civilians for decades. In 2023 in the West Bank there are increasing tensions with settlers and Israeli forces growing more hostile towards Palestinians, increasing the displacement of Palestinians. The average age in the world's largest open-air prison, Gaza, will be 18 years old in 2023, over 95% of the water in Gaza is toxic, and the people are being starved and unable to leave or peacefully protest. Gaza has a predicted population of 2.3 million people, and the UN predicted it would be inhospitable by 2020. In 2018, 214 Palestinians were killed during the Great Match of Return protest 46 of which were children, and for generations, they have experienced the atrocities and war crimes the world has ignored, this is not a conflict it is a genocide. When Hamas attacks Israel there is a chance of civilian casualty but when Israel's government calls for attacks on Gaza which has a population of over 2 million people, civilian casualties are the intent and the definite result, a reality that American media gives little to no to acknowledgement, choosing to focus on an small and disorganized extremist group.
