MD1200 Noise

Need some advice on how to quiet down my disk shelf. I would like to avoid replacing it, but it may be the only option. I’ve seen some tutorials on slowing the fans through a serial connection, and I’ve got it working before, but to say it works intermittently is generous. The serial terminal is almost unusable any time I can get a connection. I’ve seen some tutorials on replacing the fans, but I’m worried about the disks getting too hot. What are y’all’s thoughts?
