Easiest way from NYC↔️DC in one night

I’m from NYC, my friend from DC is having his birthday dinner this Saturday. Trying to find the easiest/cheapest way to and from on Saturday night. Amtrak’s cheapest for that time is around $300 round trip 😬 suggestions appreciated!
