Baby pulls to standing using mum's hands only

I discovered my almost 8 month old standing up in the bathtub last week and got very excited, maybe too excited. The next day I taught him to pull up to standing using my hands for assistance and now he is off cruising using furniture or me for support. The issue is, he crawls to me to pull up and only pulls up on me now. I love encouraging his early cruising and walking but does anyone have some tips on how I can help him learn that he can stand up using objects other than mum? - If I take my hands away but am sitting down, he will still climb up me, however, I allow for a diagonal climb whereas furniture is all vertical. I try to show him how to pull up on furniture but I'm not sure I am getting the message through to him.

Any advice would be appreciated.
