Travel trailer rocks a lot when set up
Just finished up our first year camping and absolutely love it. We slowly made a list of things we want to fix, adjust, and add during the offseason so we’re ready for next year.
One of those adjustments is to figure out how to keep the trailer from rocking so much, even with only the slightest. My 3 year old doesn’t walk too heavy (35lb) but when he walks, it’s very noticeable. It’s a 36ft trailer and I can see the blinds moving in my bed (very front) when he’s simply walking near his bed (very back).
We have 3 kids total and 2 yellow labs, so when we’re all in there it’s kinda bothersome. I figured it was just how trailers were, but when we went camping with my parents, their trailer is extremely sturdy. My dad is a large guy, about 6’1”, 300lb and I can barely feel their camper move when he’s walking up the stairs (pulling hard on the railing). Granted their trailer is a 5th wheel, so maybe that is why?
Anyways, I’ve gotten it as close to level as I can. We have a leveling module that shows me how close I am, and I nail it level almost every time. We have Anderson leveling blocks for times we’re on uneven sites, and always use those X chocks in between tires.
I was considering getting rid of the stabilizer jacks on the front and back and just going with a heavy duty leveling kit, but then read somewhere that most travel trailer frames aren’t built to handle those.
Am I doing something wrong here or is that much movement normal for a travel trailer?
