Found out my cousin has been using her company's credit card for legal fees. She was caught, what happens next?
Long story short, my cousin has been embroiled with her ex husband in custody battles. The short of it is that he has filed several 'emergency' filings through the year because their daughter is old enough to see that he is a low life and now no longer wants to go to his house, and he is saying that my cousin of manipulating her blah blah. There is some self-harm involved when the daughter has to go to her dad's, so my cousin counter-filed for full custody. Attorney fees have added up and no one in the situation makes a ton of money, so it just came out that my cousin was putting the fees on her company credit card out of desperation. Now she is being laid off, so she came clean. They gave her until the end of the week to come up with $50K, but she is totally tapped and has no chance of that. They say they will charge her otherwise.
She is convinced that she is going to prison. That she will go to jail tomorrow and make bail and then eventually be found guilty for a 2nd degree felony that caries at least 2 but up to 10 years. I'm trying to calm her down, but really don't know.
This is Tx and the company is a small family run company in a small-ish community. What are some likely next steps of how this may play out?
