Stimming is always involuntary for me and sometimes its really distracting for me and other people
I rub my fingers together, I write words on my finger with my thumb without even meaning to,like I'll hear a word someone said and I'll just start tracing it. I chew on things(honestly bic lids taste kinda good) . The chewing bothers people because I break pens, have gotten ink in my mouth, and I've chipped my teeth on a stone necklace. I also move my mouth and grate my teeth. I've bitten the inside of my lip. I play with everything, like if I'm holding something I'll spin it. I can't wear necklaces because I automatically chew on them.
I click the volume up and down on my phone and the sound distracts people. They tell me to stop but it's extremely difficult since I can't control it. I prefer to stand sometimes so I can move around but it makes people feel uncomfortable. I'm always being told to sit. I pace but people have been woken up from the sound. Lately I notice I like to flick my hair with my pointer finger. That one annoys me. I used to yawn and people always thought I was tired. I love clicking on the all caps button on the keyboard while thinking of what to type. I think I also make excessive hand gestures while speaking and it makes me feel more comfortable. I like to point, move my hands as if I'm presenting, throw my hands around and just move them a lot. It happens mostly when I'm passionate about what I'm talking about. I think people are starting to feel uncomfortable talking to me because of it. I don't want to get rid of my stims but are there ways to reduce them? They do make me feel annoyed sometimes because they distract me.
