RetroArch and backbone controller for Android phone.

I have the nothing phone 1 with RetroArch installed. I followed the setup for Retroarch to launch when I select games to play. When it launches RA it brings the game up but with onscreen controller instead of being full screen with my backbone controller. Am I missing a setting in RA that allows this?

P.s. I had only read the read this before asking thread so my apologies for violating the community rule #1 in my previous post.
