Schmidt and the laundry fiasco

Okay I absolutely love this show and I’m doing yet another rewatch (because it’s one of my comfort shows). I know the Schmidt laundry topic has come up on this Reddit a lot, but I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this possible plot hole/inconsistency too.

I’m watching S4E8 (Teachers) where Nick teaches Schmidt how to do laundry bc apparently he doesn’t know how to. Overlooking the fact that Schmidt is a neat freak, super on top of his life, and that he can just afford to get all his stuff dry cleaned….this still doesn’t make sense.

This brings me to an inconsistency that I think the writers forgot about. In S2E5 (Models) Schmidt gives Nick a cookie and Nick freaks out about it, so Winston has to set him straight and tell Nick how much Schmidt cares for him. Winston says “Do you know once a week he goes into your room and cleans it and then returns everything the way he found it? … The dirty old T-Shirts, which he washes.” HOWWWWW could Schmidt wash Nick’s shirts if he doesn’t know how to do laundry. Sure, I guess he could get them dry cleaned, but that feels like a far stretch.

Maybe I’m just crazy or maybe this a sign I watch this show too much lol
