Something i don’t get.

so in the movie, they tell us that William went to a campsite that Mike’s family was camping at some decades ago. During this time, he kidnaps Mike’s brother Garett, and presumably kills him. I just don’t get this.

Like why Garett? Why some random kid at a campsite? It’s just so confusing to me.
