how can I move on from a regretful decision
I am currently 21 and my senior year of high school/freshman year of college was spent during the height of the pandemic. When i was 17 trying to decide where to go to college i had 2 great schools to decide from but ultimately went with the one i wanted, not what was best for me. my freshman year of college was the worst year i’ve ever experienced. it threw me into a low point and left me with trauma, anxiety, and depression im still feeling 4 years later. it was so bad i had to leave. i am now in a completely different, lonely, regretful position where i’m stuck at home with no social life and the worst mental health i’ve dealt with. i am in school for what i wished to pursue in high school, but it’s not an ideal situation.
ultimately, i hate myself for choosing the school I did and not the one that would have 100% set me up for success. looking back i cannot comprehend how 17 yr old me made the decision she did knowing the pros of the 2nd school outweighed the pros of the one i chose. I regret my decision more than anything else in my life and always imagine how different me and my life would be if i choice the latter. It eats me up inside that i could have had a better, happier, more fulfilling life. i understand that i am still young and have so much ahead of me, but im not living the life i want at my age and it hurts. i have grown a lot since then, but i’ve also missed out on my college years. how do i accept this mistake and move on?
