Don't use Steam Cloud, I lost all my progress because it didn't sync properly

I saved my city on my laptop and started it up on my desktop, tried opening the game and the launcher popped up but steam said that the game didn't sync properly off my laptop. I closed the launcher but steam synced that anyways. After trying to open the save on my laptop the game would no longer launch the city. It still shows on the launcher under "resume" but not in game, launches directly to the main menu. This isn't the first time it happened either.

Just a word of warning. About 20 hours down the drain.
