Is this normal?
I work at a homeless shelter. It’s a housing first Homeless shelter. Anyway, due to high case loads we do believe in self advocacy. There’s also TONS of notes to upload each week. A sit down and a follow up. The follow up feels pretty redundant honestly. Anyway, issue is I’m falling behind because all of the clients who are unable to advocate for themselves due to disability are ALL given to me. The supervisor who was fired for no good reason who used to help is no longer working at the shelter im at. I have TONS of notes to upload , TONS of calls to make as well as use up a lot of time to assist clients who need it, since they have difficulty due to disability. I don’t mind it , but the only issue is the program manger makes sure we know we CANT leave late without first asking , we CANT use the computers at the front desk even though our computers are constantly down. There’s tons of emphasis going on notes and I get it but the issue is ,,, it’s hard for me to manage making a large number of calls, taking out time to assist clients who need extra help with things most clients can manage themselves PLUS upload notes. I think it’s unfair that I’m held at the same standards as other staff members yet given the clients who require extra time and attention. Is this normal For them ALL to be given to me yet I’m held at the same standards and expected to leave on time? I’d have no issue if I was given some leeway … but I’m not and I’m in bed … freaking out because I have notes I need to get done yeah … but I also have clients who are time consuming and doing both with hashtags 40 hours a week is impossible. Is it normal for them to put all of this on a case manager? It’s not like I have a lot of experience or qualifications other staff lack. I’m just a case manager with a BA in public health and nit much experience
