Was Sol Regem Innocent?

I know this is a controversial topic and I know that Sol Regem is an antagonist but let's try and look at the overall narrative.

Sol Regem commands the leader of the dark mages to meet him for all we know this is the third of fifth time they've met since Ziard has some history with him.

Than Sol Regem demands him to give up dark magic and in the narrative he has every right since dark mages back in the day hunted and poached dragons and the creators confirmed that Sol Regem helped the unicorns make the sun primal stones and gave them to the wisest humans. So a prideful dragon king would never take that lying down.

So when Ziard says that humans need dark magic it kinda comes off as a middle finger to Sol and the unicorns. And finally Ziard says "Back to when we were lesser beings?" Sol Regem didn't even bring that up and he replies "You are lesser beings."

I don't think he meant "You're lower because you were born unlucky." rather than "You are Lower because I don't make excuses and throw away gifts." it's alot like industrialization meeting alternative power we've progressed to a point where oil and coal aren't needed as much anymore.
