AITA for expecting more from my relationship?

My boyfriend and I have been together for almost three years. When we first met, we would go everywhere together for my birthday. He took me on a really nice vacation and last year he bought me a new phone. And for the most part, it’s been a two-way street. last year I bought him really nice reclining chair that he loves and a bunch of games and gift cards. But this year I feel like things kind of changed because he as of recently he mirrors what I spend on him and uses that to decide what to buy me in return.

I didn’t buy him as much this year for his birthday because I was out of work for three or four months of the year and I didn’t really want to spend too much but we went on a really nice vacation last month and I paid for the Airplane tickets and The hotel for three or four nights.

But as of recently I feel like down to the dollar he kind of sees what I spend on him, and he reciprocates that. I feel like that’s really petty and not romantic, and very childish. I’ve asked him about it and he’s said he thinks relationships should be 50-50 but I’ve always felt that’s so petty.

And if we’re going to do that then we should place a value on what we do for each other as well, not just what we buy for each other. I have taught him so much about financial planning and retirement and educated him about so many things related to finances. He had no clue about those things before and he had no savings when I met him. Now, he has a really good 401k with six figures in it, and last year, he bought i bonds from the treasury, and even now has a high yield savings account. he had none of those things when I met him. and I just really feel like you can’t put a price on those things

AITA for feeling like at this point in our relationship, we should not be calculating how much we spend on each other down to the dollar and cent?
