We backed out of a house a day before closing

Girlfriend and I offered on a house that had obvious smokers living in it, the walls were all yellow. So we put an offer and they accepted it next day. It was a nice house other than that. So we later found out by the inspector that the roof was leaking. We asked that the roof be fixed and have a new thermostat put in as the old one doesn’t go below 72 and they accepted also. They were supposed to take off the whole roof and replace all the boards underneath. So the day before closing we went in to look at the house, they left rotten food in the fridge, a DILDO in the closet, they didn’t take out their trash so all the freezer and fridge food were in there and a ton of other trash. Even had the audacity to leave a cigarette in the toilet as a present. They only replaced a few boards underneath from what I guess what they deemed is necessary and cut corners on the rest. We asked for more money to cover the roof not being done correctly, and the realtor said they won’t give us any more money, so we backed out lmao. Oh and they also turned the power off early so we couldn’t check anything.

I found out they didn’t even have the money to pay for the roof so she was going to use her money from closing to pay for it. Which was going to be about 40 grand. And to top it all off, the husband dropped dead in the kitchen 2 years ago and apparently someone killed themself in the bathroom.

Very fun stuff, make sure you don’t get screwed by people.
