AITA wanting accurate information for my late mother?
Unfortunately lost my mom recently and I'm tasked with updating her biography and obituary. I'm working with my siblings and they mentioned that our mom was a surgeon (MD). This was a surprise to me, I remember her being a TD and PhD as well as a nurse (RN, and nurses are equally awesome).
They said I was downplaying her medical expertise and dishonoring her by not wanting to put down information of her as an MD, and they further told me she went to several ivy league schools I never heard her tell me. My mom lost a lot of documents in a house fire, so I asked my siblings where they got this information they claimed they "seen evidence personally and mom introduced herself as MD" and that I just was never around (due to me working).
I never heard mom introduce herself that way and I volunteered to contact the universities because I feel like my understanding was more accurate. To me correct information will honor her better. My mom has done a lot of great things worth highlighting, but some members of my family have a habit of inflatng the truth. And I would feel awkward presenting something not on solid foundation.
My siblings got physically upset with me. I made a compromise with my siblings to simply list her as Dr without elaborating on the specifics but they're still unhappy with me.
Already 3/6 of the universities replied to my email and said they have no record of her attending. I don't know how to present this information to them or how they'll receive it.
TLDR: siblings are upset I refuse to list or claim my late mother graduated from specific universities. I want to find the truth and list only correct information.
AITA?
