Team plays better with 10 players

I'm playing FM21 and I've always recognized that my team rarely falls apart when a player gets sent off. However, this most recent save my team starts to do significantly better especially offensively with 10 players. Is this a tactics problem? Is this the AI being stupidly greedy trying to score? It's kind of ruining the game for me.
