Ipod Nano 7th Gen DIY Repair - partially successful, with questions

OK, about a decade ago I accidentally put my 7th gen Nano through the wash. It was in my shirt pocket and I overlooked it. When I discovered it later that day, I put it in a bowl of rice for several days. After it dried out, I tried turning it on. Screen was dead, but I could still play music by using the physical buttons. Since that time it has sat in a drawer.

Last week I purchased a new lcd screen, digitizer, and battery for the nano. Referring to various tutorials on youtube, as well as, ifixit.com I opened up the Nano and switched out the above parts. Good news, the screen now turns on. Bad news, 1) the touchscreen functions (swiping, selecting) are not working and 2) the ipod won't come on at all unless I have it plugged in. Not sure what to think about the touchscreen functions. As far as the battery goes, I'm guessing I didn't get it soldered quite right. Have not yet tried to diagnose it using my multimeter. I'm a woodworker by trade, good with my hands, and have a minimum amount of electronic work under my belt (solding, wiring, and programming custom leds; repairing the broken screen on my Google Pixel 6a, etc), but I'm by no means an expert, just a beginner.

Does anyone have any ideas what I could check or change to get the Nano touchscreen and battery working properly? Haven't closed it up yet, so the internals are still accessible.

Thanks,

Mark
