What are the safest neighborhoods in boston to get a studio for less than $1600/month ?

Friend is looking for apartments in Boston area. They know someone who go to rents around $1,000/month for a studio arouund. Brookline,Allston,Brighton. My friend can't find anything on apartments.com for any studio less than $1600 in those areas.

What are some safe(read: non-ghetto) neighborhoods within 30 minute commute by MBTA of Backbay that studios go for less than $1600. Please don't mention Roxbury,Mattapan,Dorchester or Chelsea.
