I do not get the rent mechanic at all.

• Raise taxes? High rent.

• Lower taxes? High rent.

• Zone higher density? High rent.

• Don't zone any low density only high density? High rent.

• Educate everyone to the highest level with a shit ton of schools? High rent.

• Have plenty of jobs for every citizen? High rent.

• Zone all my low residential and 2x2 or 3x3 because rent is based on tile size? High rent.

It's the dumbest mechanic and I'm tired of looking at the symbols. Can someone ELI5 to me why I'm too stupid to figure this out. I've played for over 40 hours now and it's the one thing in the game I don't understand. I just ignore all the high rent and nothing negative seems to happen. I just hate looking at them.
