Now they want to help?
I have been homeless since June 5th of this year. In that time I have worked my ass off doing Doordash to pay my bills. Feed myself and so on. I got myself into the DVR program (division of vocational rehabilitation) and got into trucking school to get my CDL Class A to drive 18 wheelers. I never missed one day of school. I Doordashed on my days off. I did all of this. Now when I first was homeless I went to the VA to help me obtain housing. Section 8 essentially. Now as a veteran it's a different process. We get preferred treatment, and it generally takes only a fraction of the time to aquire housing. Well I wasn't one of them. The VA wanted me to declare bankruptcy. Go on welfare and food stamps and get on the system. I wouldn't do it. I wasn't looking to go further in the hole. I wanted to climb out of the hole I was in. So I didn't get my own apartment. I ended up in a small room in a home. It was safe and I got meals when I was here and not working. My stuff didn't get stolen. I had a safe place to sleep. Now I'm about to go out on the road driving a truck and this private organization wants to help me find section 8 housing. But why? I'm going to be away for weeks at a time. Andonly home a couple of days a month. Why would I pay rent? I need a newer vehicle more then I need a apartment right now. I really don't get it. So anyway. I am going to meet with the lady tomorrow. I will listen to what she has to say. But I don't think I'm going to take it. I made it this far. I'm going to keep going until I make it on my own.
