Starting Meds.. New Diagnosis - Uk
Hey guys, I am 35, I recently got diagnosed with adhd. The process was arduous and inhumane. Essentially, i was told i meet all criteria for adhd, but that i have a good job, so I must be functioning. My life is in ruins essentially and my job is the only thing that keeps me going, but im constantly plagued with MH issues and overstimulation and i spend most nights and weekends just lying in bed trying to recover from simple things - like working in an office environment and holding conversations with people, or planning my week.
Anyway, I recently got prescribed Medkinet 10mg. To be upped to 20mg. First day was fine, i felt nothing. When i went to bed to sleep i just laid with my eyes closed and dreamt for around 6 hours, but i was awake and physically present the entire time. It was more like a waking dream. I woke up disorientated and no energy. I took again yesterday and i felt fine for the day and slept around 8 hours, which is about 3x more than usual. I woke up exhausted and all day i've barely been able to keep my eyes open. Its horrendous.
I dont know whether to stop or continue. Im worried i wont function due to the tiredness. They are upping in 5 days and a review in a month. Im worry about other things too:
- I was told there is no addictive potential - But then i read online adhd are highly addictive.
- I worry it will strip me of my personality. My psychiatrist says no it will just make me more calm, but lots of people have spoken to say its dulled them. I worry about this, i like my personality and creatively. I don't want to be a dullard.
- the adhd team made me feel so crap about myself that i couldnt possibly have adhd as i was 'coping'. It's made me feel like an imposter and now doubt I even had a problem to begin with.
Im wondering if anyone could give me any insight. I appreciate we all respond differently.
Thanks
