Writing Culture Shock
On my story, one of the main characters came from an Eastern Kingdom based on China. After her introduction and that segment of the story, the group returns back to their pseudo-europe, and the rest of the story is spent there and my world's equivalent to the Middle East. Note: While a lot of my world is influenced by the early modern era, especially the 17th century, there are still many anachronisms due to magic, alternate timelines, different technological progresses, etc. This is something to take note of, in case you need it.
For some of her character arc, she is trying to assimilate in her new environment, due to being unable to ever return to her homeland. However, I do not fully know how to accurately depict it. As of now, there are a few "what up fellow kids" kind of jokes, since the magic society is much more technologically and socially advanced.
What are some ways I could accurately depict cultural shock, especially for a fantasy setting?
