Dismissed over commuting, what are my options?
Hello Reddit,
Throwaway because I don't want anyone to be able to trace this situation back.
So I'm currently on a Working Holiday Visa (417) and accepted a job on a farm about 1:15hr drive from my current home. The farm provided accomodation for a certain sum of rent. The contract and the rules did nowhere state that it was mandatory to stay in the accomodation in order to commence the work. However, I found out staying in the accomodation didn't work for me and decided to commute from my current home until I found a room closer to the farm. Then I informed the manager about it. She told me, it isn't possible to commute and she would have to replace me. When I asked her where it's stated in the contract/rules, she said she didn't need to write it down, she was the boss and she could make the rules as she went. She asked me when my last day would be and I offered her to stay as long as she needs me. She then informed me that the next day would be my last day. So I went to work. At lunch break I received a text from her, where she asked me why I was working at all.
However, I commenced work on that day. The supervisor found out about the situation and talked to the general manager. He said I could stay, as long as I am on time and do a good job. Fair enough, had nothing else on my mind anyways. After I finished work, the manager came back to me and informed me that I'm not allowed to come back and she had already replaced me. So now I am dismissed from this job and have a very odd feeling about how everything went.
Is there anything I could legally do about it?
TIA
