AITA for not letting my mother/family babysit my baby girl for even 10 minutes?
I 26f just had my first baby 3 months ago and have struggled a lot because of my family. Context I am a single mom going through a divorce and I am in the military stationed halfway across the country.
It’s my moms first grand baby and since I have 6 months of maternity leave before I separate she offered to have my live with her and my step dad for 6 months. I agreed because I wanted to share my daughter with them before I took a new job and moved away again.
I also have two dogs and my mom agreed to have them so long as I clean up after them (hair mostly). Ok np. First few weeks home at 9 months pregnant I am cooking, cleaning etc. being a great house guest. However I am not getting any respect back.
My mom helped me drive to her house with my dogs (over 1200 miles). Soon as I pick her up she starts vaping in the car with me being pregnant. I tell her to stop and second hand vapor is a problem. She rolls her eyes and says seriously it’s no big deal and I catch her sneaking it when I’m focused on the road.
Once we get to her house it gets worse. She lives on bust road no fence so I say I only will take my dogs out or they can on a leash. I’m not exaggerating when I say they let them out every day and they almost died multiple times.
At this point I’m having mental break downs from anxiety. To the point I don’t want to go to the hospital for more than a night to have my daughter. Fwd my daughter is here and I have boundaries. Normal no face kissing, vaping around her and don’t let their dog who bites near her. Also wash your hands before holding her. From day one they didn’t follow any rules and made me feel crazy for crying and getting frustrated blaming it on hormones etc. Now I won’t let them babysit even if I go down the road to the gas station I take her. Mom cried a lot and said I don’t respect her rules either.
I stopped helping cook and clean after being shit on for a month straight and basically clean up after myself (barely) I’m exhausted depressed and have anxiety now. But I love my daughter and know I’ll be fine when I move out. AITA?
