I called in a drunk driver
So long story short I know this guy, that’s about 20 years older than me. Live in a small town, and more acquaintances than anything. He moved here just over a year ago as an economic development officer. Barley any contact, seen him a few times in town and say hey type thing. I’ve also worked a bit with him. Anyways, I get a call once from him out of the blue and I ignored it as I was busy at work, he called again and I thought maybe it was work related. He asked where I was, and I said at work why, and he’s named my place of work. I said yeah why, he said I’m across the street I need you come please. I’m a social worker, so I thought maybe it was someone in distress. I found him in his vehicle, and was drunk. I don’t know if he drove, or was just drinking in the bar, he was parked in front of. He was upset and told me about a dui incident which wound him up in court. I smelled alcohol, and asked if he’d be drinking. He admitted it, and I told him I’d drive him home and to not drive. He agreed. There was a mickey of fireball, which was half empty in the back seat. I got a coworker to follow me to his home, which is like a two min drive from where he was. He was demanding I came inside and he needs to talk to me. I explained I’m working and need to go back. He said to call him after work, which I didn’t plan to. I told him to get in his house, and not go back out driving. He started texting me saying he needs me and to come back or else. I didn’t answer. Fast forward after work, he calls me again twice and texts me that’s he’s ok and to call him. I didn’t, and went on my way. I needed to get groceries after a client visit. After the client visit, I seen him driving around, and again near the grocery store flying down the street. I called it in to police and first just said an anonymous tip due to erratic driving. I then called back and told the officers exactly the story and what happened earlier. I work closely with the officer and he questioned why I didn’t say the whole thing. I said because I really didn’t want to get involved and seem as if I’m trying to get someone in trouble. I was truly concerned for the safety of other people, children as well as we are a small town and lots of children are out biking around and playing. The police said while I was on the phone with them, that they think they see him and they’d need a statement. For some reason I’m struggling with this. Kind of scared I’d get in trouble by police, but also that I called on someone. Sorry…just had to let it out somewhere.
