My Gripe with John’s Ability

So everyone knows that when John copies an ability, he also amps its primary stat but excluding trick because his trick stat is 10 by default

If his trick is 10, why doesn’t he create new uses for an ability due to the maxed out trick. All he does is make things larger or in more amounts. And the most “versatile” things he’s done is combine ability moves. Like why wouldn’t he be able to use energy discharge since his trick is 10 and his power stat is higher than Blyke?? I just don’t get it
