Drinks on me, ladies and gentlemen, as we celebrate reaching 15K memebers! Please take a seat, come on grab your cup of tea, coffee, beer or national Arak, or the almighty Yerba Mate and--- Whoa Whoa STAY IN THE LINE! Stay in the line Latakians and Tartusians please! Only the first cup of Matté is free, alright? I don't wanna go bankrupt. Oh I almost forgot, you guys are welcome to try this beautiful Makdous, it's on special sale for y'all (I will be decorating the cafe with dangling Makdoos everywhere, I know you won't resist. Doing this will surely cover the drinks cost and definitely make me extra cash on the way! You see? An Aleppine can't miss out on a business opportunity. It is a good master plan tho, isn't it? 😈). Okay enough with the stereotyping.

[Ehem Ehem - clearing my throat to get more serious]

Now, mods, I'm talking to you: bring a piece of paper, one piece might not be enough, bring a notebook and start taking notes. Seriously you should. Use collaboration management software if you're not don't like hand written notes. It doesn't matter how you do it, but you just need to do it. Got it? Awesome! Moving on.

^({End of Introduction})

Dear citizen of the Syrian Republic, hear me out please.

I know you have complaints about this sub. I do too. It's not perfect. Nothing in real life is, anyways. But let's try and make it a better place. I think you all know how we Syrians suck at team work, it must be our worst trait ever. So let's aim at beating that once in our lifetime on this platform. Write what's bothering you with this community. Get it off your chest, but as Reddit says "Remember the human" and be kind. Write your suggestions on how it could be a better place for all Syrians. We should make it better for the love of Syria. We need to stop fighting online. We've had enough in real life. I know it's going to be impossible to bring everyone to one table, the division is too big to contain, but we must at least give it a try. Bridging the gap between us should be top priority. We all are Syrians, and despite the horrific war we had, we still embrace a lot of great value regardless of our political and religious differences. And there are few example I can quote from this very subreddit! Like that one post which was asking to exploit Syrians in a remote job for insanely low wage, and that other post suggesting to stop sending funds to our relatives. You can see EVERYONE agreeing to stand up against those blatant insensitive ideas because we still are humans, heart and soul, we didn't abandon our humanity which is more often to happen in wars than you'd think, so if we still have that light of humanity in every single one of us, I believe we still can work it out, we can talk it through and get past our differences for a greater good, for the sake of Syria, for the sake of humanity.

The End

Now feel free to leave your comment, or read on some of my complaints:

Let me start myself with some complaints, and I will offer what I think are feasible solutions.

!

  1. My biggest complaint in this place is the amount of overly repetitive questions. Like I see the name of this sub and I already can guess it will be one of those posts:

["is Syria safe? Can I visit? or Can refugees come back? or has the war ended yet?" and such], ["Are Alawites/Druze/Ismaili Muslims?"], ["How to avoid conscription? How to pay exemption fee?"], ["When will it end? What's the future for Syria?" ok, these are not that bad, but people need to be more specific, often times they are too generic, like focus on why would the answer change from the last time that same question was asked, so provide certain recent events and ask for opinions on how they'd effect the country for example].

Solution: create a sticky post for the first and third question, like a monthly updated mega thread. The second type of questions shouldn't be even approved or posted in here. !<

!

  1. The rules.Reviewing of the rules seems a lot in need, mods please work on updating the rules, they need better phrasing too in my opinion. !<

!

  1. We need to see less war in here. Of course we can't avoid politics in a country that's thorn by war, that would be misleading for folks coming here to be informed and have no clue what has been going on in the region. But aren't the majority of us using the internet to numb the feeling and forget a little of the situation? Shouldn't we try our best to move on and engage in civilized discussions about art, culture, and other aspect of life that bring meaning and benefit or joy to our lives?

Solution: create a flair labeled "Politics / War" that can only be approved on one day of the week, like Wednesday? So people who don't want to be bothered by politics will avoid the sub on that day but stay in touch in the other days. !<
