First shrimp tank!

I had a 30 gallon, it used to have an angel and skunk loaches. It worked ok for a while but eventually the skunk loaches started bulling the angel. move the angel to my planted tank. Then it was skunk loaches, slowly they died off and the last one died finally. I had wanted shrimp for my other planted tank for a while but I was concerned they may get eaten in there. So the 30 gallon became vacant and was cycled so I ordered 20 mixed color neocaridina shrimp. They arrived with all doing amazing not one dead in the package. I put them in 3 days ago and they are doing amazing. The tank has a HOB that I sewed some filter media up to make a sock for the inlet and I also have a sponge filter in there that I just keep going to have a seeded filter. Although I have read now that they need a bubbler so I guess its a permanent fixture to the tank right now. I don't know why but this tank grows algae like mad. I removed the rocks and wood a few months prior to see if they were causing the algae to grow but they are not. I guess because the substrate is white and it gets slightly more sunlight than my planted tank is why it grows algae. I've tried keeping the light off as well in the past which has made no difference. Anyway I added a nice handfull of java moss from the planted tank and they seem to love climbing around in there, its like their home base. Sometimes they venture out to the more barren areas and swim around. Everyone looks very happy right now. I think eventually once they have bred and I have an abundance of shrimp ill try 20 or so in the planted to see if that works or if they get eaten and if it works out ill put them all in the planted tank. What should I be feeding the shrimp? Right now I have at my disposal, brine shrimp, algae wafers, spriulina and maybe a couple other things that I can't think of right now. I am thinking algae wafers might be redundant since the tank grows algae. Is there anything else I am missing here? tips or tricks?
