Grade 2 thumb sprain still not healed after 3 months
25M. Very healthy.
I dislocated my right thumb after a fall, which popped back on its own about a minute later. Went to the hospital, doctor ordered an x-ray (came out clear) and diagnosed me with a thumb sprain, but no grade. I got a splint put on, then went to see a plastic surgeon 2 weeks later who referred me to a hand physiotherapist.
Physiotherapist removed my splint, made me a smaller one that can be removed as I see fit and had me do exercises. I went back to see him for a second time by which my range of motion had improved significantly and my strength was at about 60% of my left hand/thumb. He diagnosed me with a grade 2 thumb sprain and said my thumb should be at 100% 2.5 months after the injury.
It's been 3 months and a couple days. My right thumb's range of motion is probably at 95%, same goes for strength. I can do pretty much anything, though there can be a bit of pain and soreness depending on the intensity and type of activity, which I try to avoid. The base of my right thumb where it was dislocated is swollen very lightly and a bit red. Nothing a stranger could notice.
Is this normal? I'm worried that my thumb may not heal well and lead to chronic pain, arthritis etc.
Thank you for reading my long post :)
I tried booking an appointment with my family doctor but he's booked solid for the next 6 weeks and walk in clinics are very hard to get into where I live.
