What's the current experience if I created a brand new character?

Hey all,

Haven't played WoW Retail since WoTLK. I was wondering, if I created a brand new character right now - what's the experience like? I assume I'd be leveling stupid fast and skipping all the content up to maybe the last few expansions? If my partner and I wanted to duo, is it possible to without having to group with others until we catch up?
