Priest Recommending Chastity Device

I recently confessed at a new-to-me parish where I had never met the priest or confessed before. It was an anonymous confession behind the screen, and one of the sins I confessed was masturbation. The priest gave me a handout with recommendations to avoid masturbation, and one of them was to use a chastity device. I was pretty taken aback as I can't even imagine what that would be and I don't think it would help, anyway. It also seemed extreme and this as well as the priest's rather insistent questioning of me on this topic during the confession gave me a bad feeling (I experienced sexual abuse growing up). I'm a relatively recent convert and the mother of a disabled teenager. I'd like my son to join the Church, but the thought of him confessing and then being advised to use a chastity device is disconcerting. He's autistic and anxious, and might actually feel compelled to do it and be hurt by it in some way.

I think it's irresponsible for a priest to recommend a chastity device, especially to a parishioner who they don't know, whose history they don't know (some of us were abused and the idea of being forced into a device is traumatic), and whose mental health they don't know. Do you agree? If so, can you please help spread the word among your brother priests that this is inappropriate?
