Ketamine-Lignocaine Infusions have been life changing!

Hey everyone!

*I posted this in r/Sciatica but wanted to share here also 🫶🏽

First time posting but I’ve been reading others posts and wanted to post and share my story and experience. I (34F) am currently in hospital (have been here since last Wednesday and if my pain remains low enough and manageable I will be discharged and going home this Wednesday), I am having as the title says a Ketamine-Lignocaine Infusion for a week under the guidance of my Pain Management Professor.

Getting to this place did not happen overnight and I fought damn hard to advocate for myself and find someone who believes me and will listen. My list of issues I’ve lived with for nearly 10yrs are: Chronic Sciatica, bulging L3, L4, L5, S1, Degenerative Disk Disease, Stenosis, Scoliosis and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). I had a Lumbar Disectomy surgery done January 2016 that was classed by my Pain Management Prof as ‘failed’ but it did cure my drop foot and some pain but that’s another story along with other surgeries (Hip Arthroscopy being one of them).

I had the shots, nerves blocks and many other procedures that fucking sucked and did a whole lot of nothing. I was deep in taking opiates that were just a Band-Aid (not dissing opiates they’re a saving grace for the day to day but they only helped me personally so much and didn’t fix my problem or help me the way I needed to be helped) and then my Pain Management Prof said “have you heard of ketamine?” And my response was “the stuff they give to horses?” Lol around 4 years ago and my life has drastically improved! The infusion given to me is over a week and very slowly at 14mg an hour so I’m attached to a machine for a week but my lord the relief I get for the next 4-6 months is life changing!

Im sorry this is long but I wanted to share something that worked for me in hopes it helps others. I still have my bad days and I still hurt but going from 7-8 out of 10 everyday, being bed ridden and unable to wipe my own butt to now having my independence back (working, active, have my miracle baby who is 7 months old and an actual life where I missed out on so much for many years). I pray someone can experience this and also have some relief cause we all damn well deserve it 🫶🏽 from one spoonie to another I hope this helps. And I do apologise if I’m all over the place I’m posting on my phone and I’m a little drowsy lol.
