To give her away, or not to give her away...

Advice

So I am caught with a dilemma right now. I am a college student currently living in an apartment, and I am graduating and moving out of state after college. The thing is that my mom can't take care of my dog at home anymore (I live 30 minutes away from my mom), so she would have to come live with me if I wanted to keep her. I've never lived with a dog in an apartment before, and she is a dachshund so I am especially worried about her noise level. I'm also not sure about my class schedule and how that would work out with her going to the bathroom. I also go out of town frequently for work, so it would be hard to coordinate with someone to watch her and make sure she can use the bathroom.

I think I could make it all work if I tried really hard to coordinate my schedule and perhaps pay one of my roommates to care for her while I'm gone, but at the same time I'm not sure. I'll also be going away for this summer to an internship and I don't know how housing will be out there and if I could even bring her with me, which would be an issue since I would be away for 2-3 months.

She is a senior dog, but still has about 3+ years of life left in her (she just turned 7, she still has plenty of energy and has always maintained a really good weight and has been overall healthy). I just feel bad giving her up, but I'm not sure if I can take care of her anymore.

TLDR: can someone please tell me about their experience of giving up their dog and what made them make the choice, and how they coped and who they gave the dog to? I am just trying to figure out what to do right now. Thanks
