My (M19) best friend (F18) made a fake social media account in my name to troll a girl that showed affection towards me in the past
Basically my whole life the majority of my friends have been female. I don’t have any problem with it, and I’m straight by the way.
I enrolled in uni this year and made friends with a groupmate who lived basically across the street. Due to returning home together almost every day via the underground we grew closer, and I started trusting her a lot (I am generally a very trusting person, which has backfired in the past)
One day her ex-classmates messaged me and basically said that she liked me and wanted to meet me in person. I respectfully declined bc I was having a very hard time adapting to university life. We peacefully went our own separate ways.
My best friend went abroad to solve some bureaucratic issues with her travel documents and there her acquaintance (or so it was said) offered her to make a fake social media account of me WITHOUT MY PERMISSION to “get to know what she thought about me” and to “understand if she was trustworthy” with “she” being referred to the girl that showed interest towards me.
When I saw the messages, they seemed to be trolling and maybe even gaslighting. I felt backstabbed, especially after having been betrayed and having rumours spread around behind my back in the past.
When my now ex-best friend saw my reaction she apologised profusely. I didn’t accept the apologies yet. Going no contact is not an option, as we are living very close to each and studying in the same group, and I don’t really have the guts to accept that a close member of my friend circle has done such things.
Should I ignore her or try to get over myself and make peace?
