I lost 40,000 + souls in the Great Hollow 😧

Discussion

I was visiting the Great Hollow for the first time, and like an idiot, I was carrying over 40,000 souls on me. I got over zealous trying to get some of the item drops in the area, when I slipped up and fell off a branch My body hit a couple branches on the way down and then I immediately died when I hit the bottom.

Here's the kicker: had my souls been where I initially fell off, they would have been fairly easy to retrieve. Instead, my souls were on one of the branches that I hit on the way down. Even worse, I went up and down several times trying to find them, and they only finally appeared when I used the bonfire.

When I finally attempted to retrieve them, I slipped up and hit the wrong button causing me to fall to my death and lose everything. That's easily the most souls I've lost.

What are the most souls you've ever lost from some stupid mistake?

lost about 300,000 trying to farm souls once cause i wanted a million 💀

40k aint too bad though, theres a really good soul farming spot in the painted world. if you cant get there yet, theres also the spot behind the giant door in deeproot garden, but you need 20000 souls to buy the key from andre (or kill him, but thats a terrible idea).

I've been having a decent time earning souls by making runs through New Londo while farming Titanite chunks and killing Dark Wraiths. I'll have to try Deep Root basin out behind the door. I only went through there to get to Sif and haven't really been back.

the deeproot garden spot will net you about 8,000 per run, but the enemies are spread apart and could gang up on you if youre not careful

the painted world has a spot with 10 dudes just bunched up together and could be killed fast and easily (especially if you have an AoE spell like Wrath of Gods) for 8,000 as well, but you gotta play through most of the map to even get to it the first time and unlock the shortcut

You know what makes that spot in the painted world work really, REALLY well? Wear a slumbering dragon ring and the silver covetous serpent ring (and SoA if you have one already), cast hidden body, and use a fully upgraded BKH. You can get to the point where you kill over half with a single swipe because they often don't get their guard up as you approach them to attack.

Would highly rwcommw d going through Ariamis at least once to get loot and meet the banished princess (dont start swinging right away). Then you can get a really good farm going as mentioned above. No joke, it's about 10k souls for 2-3 minutes of work.

I've already been through every area in the game, but the DLC and the First Flame. I forgot how good of a farming spot that is though. I might have to revisit.

The most I ever lost was ~2 Million souls and 99 Humanity. It was a dumb mistake too, I walked off the cliff in the Berg after dying in a duel.

Regarding losing, and specifically retreiving souls, that's what the Ring of Sacrifice is for. When you wear RoS you eon't leave a bloodstain when you die. This means that if there is already a bloodstain on the ground you won't leave a new one, and so the old one won't disappear. So after you die, when you're going back to collect your bloodstain, that's when you put on a RoS. If you die again your bloodstain will still be there.

Rings of Sacrifice can be bought (from Oswald the Pardoner I think, it's been a while) for 5,000 souls. So obviously it's not worth using a RoS for a bloodstain with less than 5,000 souls. Probably kot worth the time for less than 10k really, and once you unlock a good soul-farm or get to NG+ I wouldn't use it for less than ~50k, you'll make it back too quickly. Of course if you have 2,000 souls but 35 Humanity it could be worth a ring as well.

Holy shit, TIL. This could have helped me out in so many situations. I think most people only think of the ROS as preserving what they currently have on them. I never gave any thought to what it would do for a blood stain.

At that point I'd be more mad that I lost 99 humanity. A lot of people don't know this, but you get a pretty good defense bonus from having 99 absorbed humanity. Gives you roughly 30 extra overall defense, which can be the difference between dying in 3 hits versus 4 hits.

What's the point in farming souls an 99 humanity

1
MistaCharisma•

I had 99 Humanity because I'd done a lot of duels and a lot of helping people with bosses. I just had it because I didn't have anything really to spend it on.

I had 2 Million souls because this was on my SL11 character. I intentionally kept him at SL11 so that I could help low level characters through the game. After a certain point there's nothing left to spend souls on either.

Just lost 35k attempting to quickly run down into the Tomb to save Reah.

Got bonked on my way down by those stupid Wheel Skeletons on my return trip to get my souls back.

The Catacombs aren't bad, but I did not like Tomb of the Giants, at all.

I lost about a half million souls in the bottom of sen's fortress once, I was going to upgrade my pyromancy flame on a SL1 play through

I lost over 30 millions in undead burg, was doing pvp, died at some point and fell off the tiny bridge after respawning at the bonfire 😅

The fact that you can even carry 30 million souls is one reason why I love this game. Were you just at a point where you didn't have anything to spend them on?

Normally at that point, you only use souls to buy green blossoms and other throwables/ buff resins. You get a decent amount of souls when your killing players that are level 100+ as well.

My first playthrough I lost the 40,000 souls and change from iron golem basically as soon as I stepped foot in anor londo, lol. Didn’t know you could sneak around the giant sentinels so, uh, yeah. I was reeeeeaaaaal careful with my wallet after that point haha

1
Specialist_Street_38•

Yeah, I kept trying to snipe that first giant sentinel, get killed for my trouble, and then repeat ad nauseum. Imagine my dismay when I realized I wasted a lot of time because that fella will simply ignore you UNLESS you attack him.

Pyroluminous•

The most souls I’ve ever lost were 8 levels.

Doesn’t really matter the number of souls to me, but if I’m close to 3 or 5 levels I usually take a break and level before the anxiety of having multiple levels on me breaks my composure on a random enemy.

MJCowpa•

I once lost well over 300k by getting gangbanged by like 4 rats.

Number one rule of a Soulsborne game; if you have a lot of Souls spend them as soon as you can or you will lose them.
