Would you rather live abroad or stay here in PH

General Inquiries

Hi Im a gal 26y/o single and having kinda decent salary around 50-60k/month in an IT industry. Despite of can travel, pay bills, invest, I wanna live abroad cz Im thinking of my future too (including maybe to move on from recent breakup).
Kaya lang I can only live there when I apply to a job that is in demand on that country e.g. factory worker. Cz its really hard to apply for the same type of job I have rn.
Im kinda scared cz some ppl is telling me that moving to a new city/country will be the best decision ever, that can change my life at the same time I have friends living abroad and telling me not to try cz the life there is so hard, whats on my mind is that what if I fail and I need to go back here, I cant face my fam like that and I dont wanna restart from zero.

the world is your oyster, but be aware of home sick, etc.

My parents are in the US but I chose to stay here. I'm living comfortably here. I don't see the need to relocate and start from scratch. I just visit there when I can.

It's really up to you. It's still a risk, and you won't be successful anywhere without working hard. But then again, the rewards can be great. Pros and cons, really. So think hard if the pros are worth the cons for you.

If you keep living your life based on what other people think you'll never be happy. If you want to go try your luck in another country, then go for it. Fuck what other people say or think (yes including your family). So what if you fail? At least you won't die with the regret of having not tried at all. (I don't know about the specifics of the country you're planning to go live in, but maybe once you have the visa for the factory job you can try looking at IT jobs once you're there? IT is very in demand in other countries, maarte nga lang usually, gusto may existing working visa ka na).

Do note that there's some truth to those that warn against living abroad. Homesick is real, especially if you plan to live in a non-english speaking country. Just try to make the most of it. Try to make friends if you do feel lonely. And try to have a life outside of work so you don't feel as miserable. Remember, "Wherever you go, there you are". Try to make the most of your life and situation, no matter where you are.

hey! I'm a Filipino based in Canada. I also stayed in Singapore for 3 years. All I can say, to tell you the truth, with no sugar coating, the grass is not greener here. The grass is greener where you water it.

Kung kumikita ka ng 50-60 a month, and you can afford a decent life, then stay. Nung asa pinas ako, I started earning P12,000 per month on my very first job (2009 as an assistant retaurant manager). That's really a struggle, I barely have 4k every 2 weeks. Then I left for Singapore, there I earn more, (SGD2,500), but since expensive yung country, sakto lang yung sweldo ko sa gastusin ko and then padala. I went back to PH 2012, and landed several jobs that pay from P25,000 to P35,000 monthly, those are "sakto" lang. I had a brand new car, I had a condo, I can travel too, from the P35,000 but since I want more, I decided to pursue Canada. here, yes, life is different, pero yung income mo is also just enough for your expenses here. So, bottom line, if you can afford a decent living there, don't go here. Kahit pa anong sugar coating ng iba, do your own research. Life is different here, iba yung hustle dito, plus weather, plus homesick, plus stress and anxiety.

we're planning on retiring sa PH after a few more years.

Wow man, I also met people from Canada and I heard about the state of taxes. Sobrang crazy na. As in, you dont even see the money anymore.

1

yeah, I live in the province na 15% ang tax, taxes everywhere, tax on your salary, then tax on your grocery, tax on your gas, on your car, on your insurance. ahahaha No good here, even if you have multiple jobs, you will get multiple taxes para kalang nagpapagod. Maybe dati, life is better, when inflation is not yet felt, but daaaang! after covid, all going downhill.

Also sasabihin ng karamihan, free naman healthcare, yes, absolutely, pero access to that free healthcare, not unless you're dying, you'd be happier in paying, rather than waiting. Mind you, people are dying in the triage area while waiting for a care. hahaha free naman ang school, of course, sa pilipinas din naman free ang public school, public din naman dito ang free, muka lang sosyal dahil english at mga puti ang kasama. lifestyle is really different, credit cards are immediately given, madaling kumuha ng sasakyan, ng phone, all those material things, pero babayadan mo pa din, you will still have to work for it, and iikot lang sa taxes again.

Ganyan din actually complaint ng nakausap ko na couple from Winnipeg. Besides sa income tax, meron pa tax sa gas and for every little thing. Katwiran din yung free healthcare is really only good if you benefit from it, pero if you dont, talagang taga yung income mo.

Thanks for being honest

Depende sayo what you want out of moving. If it's just to move on from your break up, di mo kailangan umalis ng Pinas. You can do that here naman. I lived abroad (though to study yun) and it was difficult but it did open my eyes to new experiences, friends, and learnings. But I decided to come back to PH kasi starting from scratch there, as an immigrant, tapos if non-English speaking country pa, mahirap yung buhay. If IT ka, try mo mag apply to tech companies directly. And hanap ka ng opening na may visa sponsorship.

I've been into 10 countries and 20+ cities. My heart and soul is still in my province of the Philippines.

what if I fail and I need to go back here

Then your life just goes back to the same as it would have been if you stayed, but with a new perspective, experiences and probably appreciation for home.

If you're living with your parents still, maybe move out from them and be independent without the need for their approval in the Philippines first then the thought of going abroad and coming back home probably won't be so daunting.

I'd rather stay here. I love my family too much, that's why mas pinili ko tumira malapit sakanila hahaha

Besides that, I can still afford basic stuff as well as travel, vacations, etc. Pero I just chose not to kasi makunat ako, and mukhang malayo pa yung inflation sa salary ko so I'm happy with that as well.

50k is more than enough for a single person

I'm contented and happy here in Ph naman, so there you go, i prefer here in Ph.

Mag abroad ka, you’ll learn ALOT of things!

1

You're still young, try it! If nagda doubt ka try mo ung malalapit na bansa such as Singapore? Maraming Pinoy dun for sure may community na handang makisama sayo 😁

People will always tell you what THEY want to do, based on their biases and shortcomings.

Living abroad is not for everyone.

If youre comfortable and happy here, maybe theres no need to shake the proverbial roost, but it might also be a good chance to gain a new perspective and appreciate the things that we take for granted in your current environment.

I think in the end, you can try it out and see if youre cut out for it.

Personally, theres pros and cons wherever you go, but I think you’ll regret it more if you dont at least try haha

at the end of the day, if you are okay living here in PH, stay here.

yes, maraming opportunities outside PH, pero hindi rin yun dahilan para i-grab mo kung okay ka naman dito.
