Help on a Game Idea: Loft
We are a team of students, grade 5-7, at the Arizona School for the Arts. We are developing a game called “Loft,” which is intended to make singing more accessible and fun, and to improve people’s singing skills and confidence. Think of it as Untitled Goose Game crossed with One Hand Clapping. We know there are other singing games, but they have limited repeat playability.
The user controls a pigeon (our school mascot Stumpy) who is looking for tasty options (French Fries! Popcorn! Pizza! Chocolate Cake!) in the buffet of life. Walking is controlled by standard WASD on a PC, but flight is controlled by the pitch of your voice. Puzzles include distracting people in the environment, finding “keys” to get into new areas, attacking pizza rat, gathering more pigeons to grow your loft, and more.
We are currently prototyping the controls and a simple level as proof-of-concept. This level is set outside a 1960s style movie theater and box office, and you are trying to get the pigeon to collect popcorn. You have to avoid the janitor and kids coming to the movie. Also, there are movie posters, and if you sing the main theme of those movies, you unlock special abilities.
We would like to hear from you:
* What you think of this idea for a game.
* Whether you would want to play it.
* If you think we should think about particular issues.
* If you have any suggestions or feature requests.
Thank you!
