if you don't mind used, try reverb . c o m they always have a decent selection, and someone mentioned a power supply or pedalboard would be a good idea as well. : )
I don’t mind used at all! I knew there was a used gear site out there but I couldn’t remember the name of it. Thank you!
Might find some of the ones on there that are out of stock too.
Get him a metal zone I think he will like that
The “Boss MT-2 Metal Zone” Pedal?
yeah man its a certified boss classic
I don’t understand why this is getting downvotes. OP said he likes heavy metal. But I don’t play metal so maybe I’m missing something.
Someone told me that this suggestion was a bad joke. So I’m thinking that’s why.
The Metal Zone isn't a joke, just has a bad reputation. But seeing the list of Walrus pedals he wanted last year, that would definitely be a better choice. As the other person said, they're available just may not be the same graphic/special edition.
Thanks for your submission to r/guitarpedals!

We got you mrs., it seems like you have the dosh to make a really great Christmas present for your man and his time is currently spent on providing in a high focus scenario. Let's say that it's a good idea to get the pedals used and from the dealer on the wishlist because he already did some shopping to decide he was interested. I would recommend you get some of the pedals on that list and put it together on a pedalboard for him. Now deciding which pedals goes on there for you is kind of daunting if we know nothing about him as a musician but he did a bunch of the work for you. That Walrus Audio Eras Distortion would get him everything he needs for metal distortion sounds and it seems he already has one so unless you want to upgrade him to the really sick art of the Kamakura series it's probably not wise to make the decision for him to buy another though we do double stack distortions and it can sound good especially in metal. The fuzz can fit in both genres, blues and metal, so could the distortion but if I'm being honest it's most important you get the overdrive since that's most associated with blues. If you're not on a budget and can purchase all 3 that's the best case scenario no doubt, not just because he already owns an eras distortion, Yes lord, walrus makes great pedals so he might not mind having two if you can afford it. You won't have to worry about quality at all - any returns would come down to personal taste, so Christmas and then some should be in the return period which are mostly 30 days - but Zzounds has a 45 day return policy and you can find some of these pedals on there. So for dirt you just need to purchase the overdrive and fuzz for him in a practical sense, but you could purchase an updated art version of the Eras additionally if you have the money and he can decide what to do with the old one if 2 of them is too much. (you have 1/3rd of that portion of his wishlist in terms of what the pedals provide sonically)
I would then say, after those 3 clipping circuit pedals to skip the aby pedal and the chorus/vibrato because he already has pedals for that function - though if you're not repurchasing a newer art version of the eras distortion (that's the one with the rocks art on it.) then the Julia Chorus/Vibrato would add another dimension of chorus to his sound which could make the board feel entirely brand new because the Julia Chorus/Vibrato is different from the Deep Six fundamentally. The fender ABY would still serve him for now and it's the least board changing thing on his wishlist, since it's possible you don't have unlimited funds, just a big enough budget.
The reverb pedal would also be a needful purchase, the one he selected may be that he prefers the dampen feature on the pedal but how about the Walrus Slo: from the same company? It features art of two figures on a moon and is the exact same price as the WA Fathom but he would be able to try out the Slo: which isn't the one he selected incase he was curious then return it for the Fathom with little hassle. Here is an article explaining the difference between the two pedals. click here
Afterall, these purchases seem like they will be around for a long time, I can tell by how based that Eras and Saturn switcher are. Maybe he would be interested on playing the slo: / fathom comparison for a few months to decide which one he prefers.
Here's Zzound's walrus audio stock click here if 45 days returns is preferred over the internet standard's 30 day returns. click here.
No worries, I'm not rambling I hope, just helping you out.
Now comes the next part which is putting it all on a board for him, which is where we're going to need to know a little about him to tell you what sort of board he might like, which patch cables he could be privy to, etc... Is he a dog or cat guy? Does he prefer donuts or icecream? How did you two meet? Maybe you could tell us what his favorite shoes are...and does he have a power supply already? These things might help us point you in what direction to go for a board to put it all on, like a pedaltrain, etc. He seems like a templeboard or schmidtarray guy though (links provided for both board manufacturers.)
Let us know your budget so we can help further! Hopefully this didn't confuse but after you get the effects units you would want to put it on a board with some cables and a power supply. Does he have any of that stuff already?
^(Tldr;)
Buy him either the Eons, Ages, or Fathom if you can only afford to buy one pedal, looking at what he has I would say that the overdrive (Ages) would be the best bet for crunchy (bluesy and metally) the Eons best for fuzzy (blues rock and doom) and the Fathom best if he has no amp reverb (just look at the amp and see if there's a knob that says reverb)
Buy him these if 3 is in your budget w/o time to return pedals for comparison
(Walrus Audio: Eons, Ages, and Fathom)
Buy him these if you can afford 3 & the time for comparison
(Walrus Audio: Eons, Ages, and Slo:)
Buy him these if you have enough money for 5 pedals including a double* for more metal
(Walrus Audio: Eras* , Eons, Ages, Fathom, and Julia)
Buy him these if you have enough money for 5 pedals including a double* & time to compare
(Walrus Audio: Eras* , Eons, Ages, Slo:, and Julia)
For buying used: be warned that it's 7 days returns on reverb or a personal policy they set, but usually 7 from the point of delivery.
God bless, may you have a holly jolly Christmas ! ! +
I will preface this statement with, this budget is for our anniversary, his birthday, and Christmas. My budget sits about $400-$500 for pedals. I dropped about $700 on a orange dark terror guitar amplifier head. I also have no idea what that is. But it was on his wishlist and I split it with my mom. Hopefully he still wants it and doesn’t kill me when he unwraps it. Was that a pointless purchase?
I searched through our conversation from months ago when he had me send him photos of his equipment and his amp is an Orange Crush 35RT?
I know before he left that he had me buy this <if I did that wrong… I’m sorry?
I also found his power supply in our email from guitar center, he currently has an outlaw effects micro supply.
I would need a return period, so with that in mind I would need it to be new.
If I missed any of the questions I’m sorry, I’m reading this and responding as I scroll. He’s a dog person, loves ice cream and cheesecake, and he wears boots I think. Idk he’s military and I haven’t seen him in awhile so I feel like I hardly know him anymore, lol! He is a very methodical person, plans everything out. If I make a board for him can he move things around or is it a set in stone thing? Would it be better if I just purchased the pieces to make a board and was like “here you go, a diy pedalboard kit”
Also really appreciate the thorough explanation, because I was about to pick out his pedals the same way I pick out his beer. “This has cool artwork, that’s what your getting”.
That's a suitable tube amp head for live shows and home use. That's about s/h for that brand new so I guess he'll need a cabinet to play through it, though there's a possibility of slaving the Orange Crush 35RT if he mods it. I would play it safe though and spend the rest of the budget on a cabinet unless that was an amp head with a cabinet. Like this 1x12. Sweetwater has a 90 day return policy so that would be best.
A "here you go I bought everything for you but you have to put it together" would be best if you don't know anything about music gear and don't have a diy background though there's guides online and it's really fun! You would need to know these things for the future when you can afford pedal gear since buying the cabinet is essential to using the rest of the gift you bought him. It's the right decision imo, you picked a good gift to start with.
The outlaw has 8 outputs for power and with that in mind that means there's only two pedals he could power with the remaining ports if he's filling the board up rather than replacing things, meaning anymore than 2 off that power supply you would spend money on a bigger power supply or an additional one. That being said, I think putting the rest ($≤50) on giftcards would get him higher value equipment on reverb because of their used markets. You could give it to him as cash or you can find something else to spend the remaining money on, or save it. Albeit You could spend that $400-500 in money on a pedalboard and 2 pedals (i would do the fuzz and overdrive used + the templeboard) but then he wouldn't have speakers to plug the amp head into and play them through. God bless and have a holly jolly one!
I’ve read through the comments and there’s really good advice that I can’t really add to. I will say though that you are a most excellent wife
I will be sure to show him this comment when I see him again! I really do try!!
Ha ha I’m sure he already knows. Don’t ever change
What pedals were on his wish list from last year? I bet we could propose some good alternatives.
That’s a good idea!
I just looked, some are available, some aren’t but I’ll include them all. I just don’t know anything about them or what they do. So if the pedals he has now do the same thing I don’t want to buy two of the same pedal just different brands.
Walrus Audio Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato V2 National Park Effects Pedal Cream
Walrus Audio Ages Five-State Overdrive National Park Effects Pedal Cream
Walrus Audio Eons Five-State Fuzz Effects Pedal Cream
Walrus Audio Eras Five-State Distortion National Park Effects Pedal Cream
Orange Amplifiers Amp Detonator ABY Amp Switcher Guitar Pedal
Walrus Audio Fathom Multi-Function Reverb Effects Pedal
Few of the Walrus Audio pedals On your the list are pretty marked down right now. And they are special editions with different graphics.

I didn’t even think to check the manufacturer website!
Check Sweetwater too. I’ve been much happier with them over the years than guitar center. Better customer service too.
And if you are okay with buying used, try Reverb (basically like eBay for music gear).
And if you’re comfortable, check reverb! Much cheaper, and can often have discontinued pedals. If you’re comfortable buying used, that is.
Looking what he already have, i woul go for the walrus "eons" or the "eras", theres a lack of distortion pedals in the pic. (The metalzone thing was a bad joke from the other user)
I would def not recommend the metal zone but woah there buddy calling it a bad joke. Some of us metal zoners are offended!
Oh… thank you for telling me and not letting me waste my money on that!
Point of interest, the one in the picture you provided is the Eras, so I wouldn’t recommend getting that one 🤣
Also, any of those “national parks” ones you can search just the name of the pedal without the added descriptors, and you’ll find the standard artwork versions. For example, instead of “Walrus Audio Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato V2 National Park Effects Pedal Cream” you could just search “Walrus Audio Julia V2” and you’ll find the standard version, which should still be available.
Also I don’t know what power supply he uses but seems like he might need that. Look into the Strymon Zuma power supply. It’s expensive but I bet it’s the one thing he doesn’t think he needs
I could check when I get home from work, I didnt think to get a picture of the whole setup.
I've got a Fathom I could let go of if you can't find it on sale anywhere else. I'd love to contribute to another pedal-hoarders stash.
I’d say get the Julia, it doesn’t overlap with any of his existing pedals and would definitely add to his versatility. The fathom is probably my second suggestion as I don’t see any time based effects on his board, a good reverb pedal is never a bad thing unless he’s content with his amps reverb.
