Toothpicks and a new exacto blade
Lay the firearm is the desired spot and place toothpicks along the outside tracing with a snug fit in mind. Remove firearm and connect the dots along the surface with the tip of the blade. Once you have the cut outline, remove toothpicks and pick a starting point to cut through. Once you poke through, use the blade like a saw vertically along the line. It’s easier to take out bulk in straight lines within the outline and then do the finicky angles after that.

I place the stuff on the foam and then mark it with tooth picks. and then use the super sharp black olfa blades to cut it. you gotta be patient.
