Is FP&A just not for me?
I’m currently a FA for a PE backed manufacturing company. Previously, I spend 2 years as a financial analyst not in FP&A and have been in this role for about a year. So about 3 YOE total.
I’m currently doing a lot of variance analysis and forecasting as well as financial statement analysis and have had a big part in our annual planning and budgeting. However, I also have a quite a bit of accounting duties as I do around 40 journal entries a month and reconcile 2 accounts at close.
I don’t mind any of these responsibilities and actually enjoy a lot of what I do. However, sometimes I feel like I have two full jobs. One in accounting and one as an analyst. It feels like there a disconnect throughout the department on where I spend my time. This leads me to being burnt out and just never having enough time to do what I actually like to do which is be curious and look into the data.
My question really is just trying to figure out if this is normal? I’m thinking about starting a job search next year and considering looking into a whole new route and giving up on FP&A. I guess I just don’t know what to exactly expect. Any advice helps!
