Long story short, I had weight loss surgery in March, then accidentally got pregnant (while on birth control) in June. My hair has taken a major hit as a result. I tried cutting it, but it continues to thin out and fall out. I would like to get hair extensions in the interim of waiting for my hair to recover, but I don’t want anything that is going to further damage my hair. I just want them long enough to let my hair get back to something I like. I am used to having a LOT of hair, so this is very saddening for me to see my hair in its current state. My personal hairdresser suggested tape ins. Before I make the financial leap, I have a lot of questions. 

How often do they have to be moved up? I have trained my hair to only needing to be washed once a week, so I’m hoping that will help. I also rarely put heat on my hair. The only thing I think that I will have to change is that I do sometimes go to bed with wet hair. 

Will they add fullness? I’m not super fond of my current length, but I’m more concerned about fullness than length. I would like a couple of inches, but I don’t want to be stuck having to put heat on my hair every day and so I don’t want something that only looks good curled. 

Will they further damage my hair or is it a good choice to use them during a “growing out” process? 

What can I do in the meantime to help my natural hair’s condition? I use Wella FusionPlex Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner. I really don’t use any products other than leave in conditioner and heat protectant when necessary. 

And also, how do they feel? I had a few extensions added years ago just for a pop of color. They were put in with the beads and I hated them because they looked so unnatural and slid right out. 

Attached is the before and after of my hair (before surgery and after). I feel like my hair has thinned out a lot at the bottom and my husband was helping me wash it the other night and also commented on how thin it was, so I know it’s not just me.

I am extremely self conscious about my hair’s current condition and considering extensions, but I don’t know if that’s best.
