IVC Filter
I just had my two IVC filters removed 2 days ago. They have both been in place for 30+ years. Back then they were considered permanent, but it is now recommended to have them removed when the risk of P.E. is diminished.
One of my filters was intact and one had 3 broken struts. Two of the struts had migrated to the renal vein. I had an unsuccessful attempt at removal a few months ago. My interventional radiologist then referred me to the brilliant Dr. William Kuo at Stanford who removed all of the pieces two days ago. I am grateful that the filters protected me and am very happy to finally have them out!
