Anyone know if I can still become a legit electrician by getting an apprenticeship through local electrical company?

Being left in the dark by my local ibew. Long story. So I Called around and asked local electric companies some family owned or similar and a couple told me they’d love to hire me on as an apprentice (I’m military). That’s great news to me but would this at all help me actually become an electrician or is it just a waste of time? Basically asking if it’s legitimate this route of apprenticeship.
