What Pokémon game for a beginner

Hey friends! So I'm looking for a Pokémon game to grab, as I have been a "fan" of Pokémon since I was a kid.

I was never a hard-core fan but I loved the shows and had a massive card collection I beat myself for getting rid of every day. I've never played any of the games so I really don't know where to start.

I only have a Nintendo Switch so anything that isn't available on it, or on the NSO I'm unable to play.

I've been looking at Legends but a few people said it was more about catching Pokémon than fighting.

I'm looking for a good exploration story, with some fun turn based strategy as well.

What is your favorite Pokémon game and what game would you recommend for someone familiar with the franchise but has never played any of the games
