Career change - to solar?

I’ve (40 years old) recently taken a break from a pretty successful career (so far)as an RF broadcast engineer. I’m taking some time to be the stay-at-home parent to our 4 year old (and it’s been awesome). Next fall, I’m planning to rejoin the full-time workforce, but maybe trying out a different direction in career.

Been thinking quite a lot about changing careers, since I feel like my old profession has fewer days left on this planet than I do, and I’m also pretty bored with it and wanting to master something new.

I’ve successfully (and legally) designed and installed my own grid-attached, roof mounted 6kW PV system, but I’m more of a geek than a trades guy.

In your professional collective opinion, is there room for a guy like me in the biz? FYI, I am not an EE or ME, but have plenty of knowledge of electrical code, electronics, and networking.
