Changing a spark plug for first time. When putting things back in, how far is the "metal shell" thing supposed to go in?

For reference, below is the picture. So I put the spark plug back in and was looking to put back the ignition back in there. How far is it supposed to go in by any chance?
In that green area, I put in a ignition coil and pulled it back out then that metal shell thing almost came out together or came loose. Is this normal?
