Would a Ryzen 7 2700x be an upgrade over a Ryzen 5 3600?

Hello all. I recently updated my system and have spare parts lying around.

A friend of mine’s system is getting hard to run some games we play. If I gifted him my old cpu would that be an upgrade for him? (He has a Ryzen 5 3600 and my old cpu is the Ryzen 7 2700x)
