Is there a reason that CloudFront does not support tag based invalidation?

discussion

I'm wondering architecturally if there is a reason CloudFront does not offer tag based cache invalidation? This isn't my area of expertise but I wonder if this is because it's seem as an anti-pattern somehow, or is something that often doesn't scale, or if it's just a feature that doesn't exist?

Akamai, Fastly, Cloudflare, etc, as far as I'm aware these all offer tag based invalidation in their CDN offerings (I haven't used them so forgive me if I'm missing detail here, this just what I've heard recently heard).

AWS does offer a "reference implementation" of a roll-your-own tag based invalidation solution (github link) which they talk about here:

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/networking-and-content-delivery/tag-based-invalidation-in-amazon-cloudfront/

So I guess that's an option perhaps, but again my main question is "is there a reason that anybody is aware of that they don't offer the feature directly?"

thank you!
